An account of everything known about
the âDarknessâ and the attack on Nubis
A report by Lila McKenna
When a city falls to the Darkness, a thick smoky mist created by the Reaper King takes over. The smoke numbs the senses of the citizens and anyone who might try to protect the city, and then the Reaper Kingâs minions, the reapers, attack â harvesting souls that will be devoured by the Reaper King.
The Darkness cannot be penetrated by the sun and it seems only those who hold the power of light and dark within them, such as the queen, can pierce it.
After the initial attack on a city, the Darkness hovers over it like a dark cloud, sucking the joy and hope from anyone left behind or overlooked by the reapers. The cities never see the light or the warmth of the sun again.
However, a few of us found a way to make our dark city habitable again. Myself, Daniel, Magnus and Maria were the first to find a way to connect with the umbra, becoming âtamersâ who fought off the reapers. With the use of moonlight, we embedded reflecting moon crystals into the main walls of the city. This appears to keep the effects of the Darkness and any potential reapers at bay. Using the power of the moon, we illuminated the city with artificial lamps and lights.
So far there has been no sign of the Darkness penetrating our defences. Only the Blood Moon every five years continues to be a threat. Through either the weakening of our protections or the strengthening of dark power during that time, when the Blood Moon rises our fortifications seem to falter, resulting in mysterious disappearances and â perhaps â deaths.
Nubis is the one city that has been able to recover from the effects of the Darkness, although it remains forever under the light of the moon.
